2nd Cooperation Committee Meeting
On May 29, the Korean-German Energy Partnership held its 2nd Cooperation Committee Meeting. The high-level meeting with both BMWK and MOTIE provided the opportunity to discuss the results of the cooperation of the last year and set goals and priorities for future activities within the energy partnership in the upcoming months.
In the first part, Ursula Borak, Deputy Director General at the BMWK, and Yeonwoo Choi, Director General for Energy Policy at MOTIE, presented key energy policy developments in Korea and Germany, respectively. Then, the participants discussed the progress achieved in the working groups “Energy Transition” and “New Green Energy Technologies” and reflected on the past 6th Korean-German Energy Day.
Overall, representatives from both countries welcomed the progress made within the Korean-German Energy Partnership, stressed the importance of the cooperation and emphasized their commitment to further exchange in the future.
For the year ahead, the following key topics will guide the cooperation:
- Energy storage systems and energy efficiency
- Green hydrogen (E.g. Certification, hydrogen port infrastructure or its contribution to industry decarbonization)
- Offshore Wind
- Smart grids (E.g. Integration of renewable energies or smart meter roll-out)
- Security of energy supply (E.g. Security despite coal phase-out)
The event was jointly organized by the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Korea) and adelphi and held as a video conference between the participants in Korea on one side and the participants from Germany on the other side.
